Banana Bread with Chocolate Chips and Walnuts

Banana Bread with Chocolate Chips and Walnuts

Bananas never go to waste in my home. This summer I even used it in ice cream. This banana bread is wonderfully moist. The sweetness comes from the chocolate and the toasted walnuts give this bread added texture and flavour.

Makes one 9-inch loaf

Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips
3/4 cup walnuts, toasted, chopped
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, room temperature
1 cup sugar
2 large eggs
1 cup mashed ripe bananas (about 3 medium bananas)
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Butter and flour 9x5x2 1/2-inch loaf pan.

2. Whisk first 4 ingredients in medium bowl to blend.

3. Combine chocolate chips and walnuts in small bowl; add 1 tablespoon flour mixture and toss to coat.

4. Beat butter in large bowl until fluffy. Gradually add sugar, beating until well blended. Beat in eggs one at a time.

5. Beat in mashed bananas, lemon juice and vanilla extract.

6. Beat in flour mixture. Stir in the chocolate chips and walnuts into the mixture. Spoon batter into prepared pan.

7. Bake bread until tester inserted into center comes out clean, about 1 hour. Turn out onto rack and cool.

This Banana Bread looks so good; I would rather have it than cake at a birthday party.

I was just thinking about making some banana bread because I have 3 overripe bananas sitting in my kitchen. I've never had it with chocolate chips before, so I'll definitely be making this now. It looks yummy!

I can already tell it's going to taste delicious just from the picture alone. Man that looks good.

I ALWAYS add chocolate to my banana bread. My other half won't eat any dessert without chocolate. You have a great recipe here and took some nice photos. Great job!

Oh my word... I don't even like bananas but ever since I was a kid O loved banana bread. I discovered this year that my mom never wrote down the banana bread recipe that I grew up loving so much - and seeing as she passed away in 2003 I guess there's no retrieving it now :( I think I'll give yours a whirl soon!

I just wanted to say I baked a loaf of this last night so I'd have something fun for breakfast today. I made a few small tweaks (I can't help myself), but absolutely loved it. It was delicious, moist, and most importantly, tasted like banana (I hate when "banana bread" tastes like every other fruit bread...where ultimately, they all simply taste like dry cinnamon/nutmeg). This will definitely be something I make again
